At the beginning of October, the North American paper company WestRock announced that it would permanently close its corrugated core paper production business in the recycled paper factory in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and the production of coated recycled paper in the factory would continue to operate.
WestRock said that the company is committed to improving the return on its investment capital and maximizing the performance of its assets, while the corrugated machine of Sao Paulo Paper Mill will need a large amount of capital investment to maintain and improve, which no longer meets the future development needs of the market. It is reported that the closure of the corrugated core paper business of the paper mill will cause WestRock to reduce its corrugated cardboard production capacity by 200000 tons every year.
After the closure of the corrugated core paper business, about 130 jobs will be cancelled due to the closure. According to company policy and labor union agreement, employees of WestRock Sao Paulo Branch will receive severance pay and resettlement assistance.
