From January to February 2022, member enterprises of the Finnish Forest Industry Association purchased 4.2 million cubic meters of wood from private forests, a decrease of 20% over the same period last year. The purchase volume of pulp and wood was 2.2 million cubic meters, a decrease of 17% over the same period last year. The purchase volume of logs was 1.8 million cubic meters, a decrease of 23% over the previous year.
The prices of local dealers in Finland did not change much, and the overall purchase price in February was the same as that in January. Compared with February last year, the cutting price of logs increased by 3-5%, and the cutting price of pulp cork decreased by 2% compared with the same period last year.
There are several reasons for changes in dealer prices. The price level is affected by the total amount of timber cut, timber quality, trunk size, cutting methods, forest and long-distance transportation distance, terrain and transportation distance. Harvest time and conditions. Therefore, even in adjacent forest sites, the price of wood may vary greatly.
In February, the price of pine stumpage remained around 62 euros per cubic meter, the price of spruce stumpage was 66 euros per cubic meter, and the average price of birch stumpage was 45 euros per cubic meter. The average holding price of pulpwood is 17-20 euros per cubic meter.
For the purpose of sanctions, Finnish forestry companies have stopped importing raw materials such as wood and sawdust from Russia. The proportion of the above raw materials from Russia is 10% – 15%, so even if Finland can meet the alternative demand, it can not be completed immediately.
In addition, the weather this year is also good for the forestry department, which is more conducive to the cutting operation. Frost hardens the bottom of the forest, and this year wood can be cut in areas that have not been reached in mild years.
