Recently, Putu Juli Ardika, Director General of the Agricultural Industry of the Ministry of Industry of Indonesia, said that Indonesia’s paper industry has improved. Its pulp industry ranks eighth in the world and its paper industry ranks sixth in the world.
At present, the capacity of Indonesia’s pulp industry is 12.13 million tons per year, making Indonesia the eighth largest country in the world. The installed capacity of the paper industry is 18.26 million tons per year, making Indonesia sixth in the world. 111 national pulp and paper enterprises employ more than 161000 direct workers and 1.2 million indirect workers. In 2021, the export performance of the pulp and paper industry will reach US $7.5 billion, accounting for 6.22% of Africa’s exports and 3.84% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the non oil and natural gas processing industry.
Putu Juli Adika pointed out that the pulp and paper industry still has a bright future because demand is still quite high. However, it is necessary to increase diversified products with high added value, such as processing and dissolving pulp into viscose rayon as raw materials for textile industrial products. Paper industry is a sector with great potential, because almost all types of paper can be produced in Indonesia, including banknotes and precious paper with special specifications in terms of security. The pulp and paper industry and its derivatives have good investment opportunities.
