Japan’s paper-making enterprises plant superior tree species to accelerate the process of decarbonization

In order to promote the realization of a decarbonized society, Japan’s domestic paper enterprises have comprehensively launched measures to effectively utilize forest resources, and are committed to cultivating fir and Platycladus orientalis, which grow faster than standard varieties and can absorb carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

This year, the company has carried out comprehensive cultivation of tree species, which is called “special paper” in Japan.

Superior tree species are selected from Chinese fir, Platycladus orientalis and other individuals with fast growth rate and bred after hybridization. The growth rate is about 1.5 times that of standard varieties, and has stronger absorption capacity for carbon dioxide.

“We will make use of the production technology cultivated in overseas afforestation projects to popularize the planting of excellent tree species,” said naohi Genan, director of the Forest Resources Research Office of Japan Paper Company

In addition, Prince holding group focuses on the “carbon emission trading”, that is, buying and selling the part exceeding or lower than the specified total emission. It plans to spend 100 billion yen to obtain 150000 hectares of forests overseas by 2030 to promote afforestation.
