Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victoria abramchenko recently issued a statement saying that in 2021, Russia’s pulp and wood production will increase significantly, and its foreign exports will also increase.
According to her introduction, because the Far East of Russia is rich in forestry resources, the forest and paper industry in this region has the fastest growth rate.
At present, the Russian government is trying to optimize the processing mode of domestic wood processing enterprises, so as to transform all domestic wood processing into deep processing mode. After upgrading, domestic unprocessed wood will no longer be exported as commodities. At the same time, while limiting timber exports, Russia has also introduced some measures to support production adjustment.
Previously, many enterprises forged unprocessed wood into processed materials for export, resulting in some policy blind spots. Victoria abramchenko said that with the adjustment of this policy, this situation will be strictly eliminated after January 1, 2022.
After new year’s day in 2022, due to the implementation of protective export tariff, the export of coniferous wood and precious wood in Russia will be restricted, which may have a certain impact on the papermaking enterprises in surrounding countries. However, the Russian government said that all these measures were aimed at protecting valuable forest resources, building an efficient forestry complex, and increasing the added value of the forest and paper industry, thereby creating more employment opportunities for the local community.
