Russian Shegeza Group transports kraft paper to China via nuclear powered ships

Russian satellite news agency Moscow, October 14, according to Russian media reports, the Russian forest industry enterprise Segezha Group sent the first batch of goods from St. Petersburg to Chinese ports along the northern sea route. Chinese partners will receive kraft paper, which is a high-quality product produced by Shegeza pulp and paper mill using northern wood.

The cargo is transported by the nuclear powered barge “Beibeihai Road”. The ship is specially designed for the northern sea route, and can navigate freely in the ice up to 1m thick.

Andre Eugene, logistics director of Shegeza Group, said: “The Northern Maritime Corridor will greatly improve the international cooperation opportunities of Russian exporters and strengthen the competitive advantage of Russian forest industry enterprises. At the same time, Russian high-tech shipbuilding industry and Russian nuclear power commercial fleet will gain strong development momentum.”

It is understood that the northern sea route, with a total length of more than 3000 nautical miles (5556 kilometers), connects the Barents Sea and the Bering Strait. It is the shortest route between Europe and Asia, as well as the shortest sea route between the Far East and the European part of Russia. The cargo transportation route from the Far East to Europe via the northern sea route is 14000 kilometers.

In the first half of 2022, Russia will transport more than 22 million tons of goods via the northern sea route. At present, Russia is taking measures to increase transportation.
