Singapore supermarkets will charge for plastic bags

Recently, Fu Haiyan, Minister of sustainable development and environment, announced in parliament that two-thirds of Singapore supermarkets will start charging for disposable shopping bags from the middle of next year. The National Environment Agency stipulates that the price of each plastic bag is set at least s $5. It is understood that all supermarket companies with an annual turnover of more than 100 million new dollars, including general parity, Shengsong, Baimei, etc., need to implement this new regulation. Small supermarkets can draw up their own charging system for shopping bags. Fu Haiyan pointed out that although a shopping bag does bring a lot of convenience to daily life, it is also polluting the environment. Shopping bag charging has been popularized all over the world, including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Singapore also needs and should join the ranks of environmental protection.
