Thailand returned 130 tons of unqualified mixed waste paper to Australia

According to a comprehensive report by Thai media, on July 28, 2022, varawut, Minister of natural resources and environment of Thailand, issued an order to transport 130 tons of “garbage” goods imported from Australia to Thailand back to Australia.

Previously, this batch of goods was declared as “mixed waste paper” and entered Thailand. During the inspection, officials found that there were not only waste paper pieces, but also other garbage items – including cloth bags, food containers, masks, napkins, spray cans and medicine sealed bags.

Minister varawut said that among these wastes, not only waste paper, but also 20% – 30% are wastes of other properties. Therefore, the Customs Department considers that these wastes are urban wastes, not “mixed waste paper”.

According to regulations, such goods are not allowed to be transshipped even through Thailand. Therefore, the inter Pacific paper company that imports these illegal wastes will also be taken legal action! Inter Pacific paper explained this, and their requirement for Australian sellers is that the proportion of garbage other than waste paper should not exceed 1%. In fact, other wastes account for 20-30% of this batch of goods, which obviously does not meet the requirements put forward by inter Pacific paper!
