The 2022 State of the Flexible Packaging Industry Report of the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) provides industry professionals with in-depth discussions on the U.S. flexible packaging industry in the past few years.
The sales of the US flexible packaging industry in 2021 are estimated to be US $39 billion, up from US $34.8 billion in 2020. In terms of market capacity, according to the latest report of FTA, the shipment volume in 2021 is estimated to be 27 billion pounds.
The report focuses on the industry sectors that bring significant value to flexible packaging materials, usually through a variety of processes, such as printing, compounding, coating, extrusion and bag/stereoscopic bag making. This field is expected to reach US $29.5 billion by 2021, excluding retail shopping bags, consumer storage bags or garbage bags.
According to the report, flexible packaging is the second largest market after corrugated paper, accounting for about 20% of the US $184.65 billion overall packaging market in the United States. Film and resin accounted for the largest input and expenditure of processing enterprises, and these two categories accounted for more than two thirds of the purchase of materials. In 2021, M&A activity set a record with 62 transactions.
